Biopsychosocial Specialist, Abilita Services, NT
Dr Pam Garton is an Occupational Therapist with 35 years of experience in Workplace Rehabilitation and a specialist interest in the biopsychosocial management of pain and disability.
In 2020 Pam was awarded a PhD from La Trobe University for her analysis of the essential components of an effective Biopsychosocial Approach and the benefits and challenges of its application.
Pam is the founder and developer of the Abilita Program, which uses online assessment tools to deconstruct the complex web of biopsychosocial factors into measurable domains. This provides a useful framework from which to discuss issues with the client and to collaboratively plan self-management strategies. She is an ardent promoter of the need for practical resources and training to support health professionals manage this complexity in clinical practice.
As a recognised specialist in the application of the Biopsychosocial Approach, Pam has taken up invitations to participate in policy development, and in further research to achieve its broad application within personal injury compensation schemes.
